 Today we worked on...

  • adding details to our Fort Calgary event maps.
  • writing a paragraph about one of the artifacts that we saw at Fort Calgary. We described it, wrote about who would have used the artifact, how it was used, and why it is worth saving. Here is a rubric that we used while writing: RUBRIC; This is a list of sentence starters that we selected from while writing: SENTENCE STARTERS.
  • editing "I Am" poems.
  • tricky math problems.
  • understanding the importance of archeology through Parks Canada: Mountain Parks Peak Discovery, Artifacts in the Ashes
  • Music - getting ready for the winter concert!
  • soccer dash in gym.
  • cooperation and friendship skills during indoor recess.

Fort Calgary

We reflected on history and learned about the people who shaped our city. It was an interactive and engaging look at many complex stories that converge at the lands of Fort Calgary.

  • Thinking of Calgary through the lens of these people: Indigenous, Metis, North West Mounted Police, Settlers
  • We became archeologists.
  • Games that indigenous people play(ed) are designed to teach many skills. Ask me about my favourite game, and what skill it teaches.
  • Grateful for skilled bus drivers. It was fun singing songs together on the drive home!
Archeologists look for artifacts - objects that have been used by people long ago.
