Today we created a "six room poem" at the pond. In groups of 3, we began planning our City of Calgary Minecraft designs. Our novel "Tale of Despereaux" is nearing the end. We have practiced using clues from the book to make inferences.
We welcomed Spring by listening to a message from Elder Saa'kokoto. Next, we looked for signs of spring at Wildflower Pond, using all of our senses.
Students will have individual photos taken on Monday.
Read-a-thon pledges are due Monday.

✔I can demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the role of stories, history and culture in
strengthening communities and contributing to identity and a sense of belonging.
• How did European immigration contribute to the establishment of communities in Alberta in
the late 19th century and early 20th century? (CC, GC, I, TCC)
• How did the arrival of diverse groups of people determine the establishment and continued
growth of rural and urban communities? (CC, GC, LPP
• How are agriculture and the establishment of communities interconnected? (ER, LPP)
Our class considered natural resources through the lens of early settlers. What gifts can the land give? Who was here when the settlers arrived? How could they have communicated to help each other? How could the land be used/shared?
Settlers sometimes traveled before the ground thawed. Why would they do this?

We will be reading in the dark Thursday. You can pack a flashlight if you would like! (Please label).
Today we enjoyed meeting guest author Erin Silver. She told us that it can take years to write a book. She received many rejections, but she did not give up! We listened to "A Bear Like Me" and "Mabel the Cat". One recurring theme was to include others without judgment.
Please make sure recorders are stored in backpacks.

With a new season just around the corner, let’s SPRING into reading!
Our 5th annual Copperfield Read-A-Thon will take place from March 6th - 17th and you can already begin to gather sponsors to collect pledges for books read by students. The amount that sponsors choose to donate is up to you! Throughout our Read-A-Thon, students will have the opportunity to participate in having guest readers join their classes virtually and in person. These guest readers may include a variety of readers such as CBE professionals, emergency service personnel, authors, artists, and athletes. Top fundraisers from each grade will be put into a draw for a prize. There will also be fun prizes for our top readers, including the chance to be the principal for a day! Please read through the pledge form that was sent home with students for more information on specific dates and how to collect cash or cheques from your sponsors and return them to the school. All money raised will go to literacy resources for our school. We encourage all students to participate for the love of reading!
