September 29 - No School Tomorrow!

 Friday is National Truth and Reconciliation Day. All CBE schools are closed. 

Today our grade 4 students did a great job in presenting our Orange Shirt Day assembly. They sang, played recorders, and joined in the school round dance.

September 28 -WEAR AN ORANGE SHIRT (OR ANY FAVOURITE SHIRT) TOMORROW

 Today included...

  • Number talks, and solving equations using strategies that were modelled. 
  • Persevering on our "One Grain of Rice" math problem. 
  • Investigation of light, discovering transparent, opaque, and translucent objects. 
  • Looking at photos of Alberta, and brainstorming descriptive words for each picture. 
  • Listening to "Shi Shi Etko" story read by Mr. Magowan.
  • practicing for tomorrow's assembly.

 Some or our learning included: 

  • investigation of Alberta's place in the world, using globes.
  • creating a map outline of Alberta and a legend of 6 regions.
  • brainstorming words to describe Alberta.
  • Orange Shirt Day art. 
  • estimation, measurement and reflection of shadows measured at noon (compared to our 9:00 am shadow length). 
  • math game: 4 Strikes.

 Some of today's work included...

  • Land Acknowledgment
  • Reconciliation stories - we can repair broken relationships at school. It is imporant to speak up when we see unfairness. 
  • Assembly, all about acknowledging the land. "We are All Guests on this Land - Nobody Owns Her."

Conferences this evening and Friday morning (no classes Friday)

 Today we:

  • went on a (recorded) virtual fall equinox walk with an indigenous elder. 
  • measured our shadows - the sun came out just in time!
  • played with shadows.
  • finished up our leaf art.
  • practiced basic skills by playing a math game called "I Spy".

September 21 - Conferences tomorrow evening and Friday morning.


 Today we were very busy. Here are some things we did...

  • School photos were taken today.
  • We completed a survey about ourselves on laptops. 
  • We painted our "stained glass" leaves. 
  • Book exchange in the learning commons, then we read quietly. 
  • Went around the pond for gym (Physical Education). 
  • Played at our school playground. 
  • Read part of Barren Grounds. 
  • Started solving "One Grain of Rice" problem.
Here is a game we have played recently. This game helps us gain estimation and addition skills.

Sept. 20 - PICTURE DAY TOMORROW!

 Some things we did today...

  • A successful fire drill. We were quick and quiet. 
  • Played a card game that required us to add 3 digit numbers.
  • In gym we practiced good running techniques. 
  • Our reset games were "secret admirer" and "when the wind blows". 
  • Writing more goals and about our memories. 
  • Listened to a story "Blackout". 
  • Played recorders in music class.

 If you haven't packed your recorder please do so this evening. 

Today we...

  • created leaf rubbings and then transferred them onto transparencies.
  • solved math problems using tables, base ten, and a number line. The problems ranged from hard to dynamite extreme. 
  • had indoor recess.
  • played "secret admirer" and 7-up.

 PLEASE REMEMBER TO PACK YOUR RECORDER IN YOUR BACKPACK FOR TUESDAY'S MUSIC LESSON. 

Today we had fun...

  • We read with our grade one buddies!
  • The story Thunder Boy was awesome. 
  • We had recess at the blue park and then went into the woods stealthily. We treated the land with care.  
  • Our poetry is finished, and we gave ourself a mark. 
  • We solved a tricky math problem.

Grade 4 students will be leading and taking part in the Orange Shirt Day assembly. We will be performing a special song. Please pack recorders in backpacks by September 19th.

Some things we did today: 

  • Wrote a story about our favourite outdoor memory.
  • Solved some math problems using a number line and place value.
  • Finished our "Make Squares" challenge.
  • Gathered words for some colour poetry.

We visited the learning commons today, and signed out two new books. Our book exchange day will be Wednesday afternoons. The librarian's name is Mrs. Claire.  

In gym we played compound games outside. 

Are there are paint colours that have not been invented yet? We created and named some new ones. 

The math game "Nice or Nasty" was fun. 

We used paint chips to represent a favourite outdoor memory.
