Goodbye 2022!

We ended 2022 by recollecting a moment in time that we were most grateful for at school. We showed this moment with loose parts, circle sharing, and a written description. Our ideas ranged from connecting with friends at recess, our Fort Calgary field trip, singing on stage with bright lights shining on us, math challenges, and many more. There is so much good that has been packed into our year so far.

We had time for a final survey of plastic bottles, created and delivered snowflake cards for staff around the school, and read in the dark using our new little flashlights.

Thank you everyone for helping to make our grade 4 community a safe and happy place to be.

May your holidays be full of positive events.

We look forward to more adventures in 2023!

December 21

 Today we...

  • welcomed the winter solstice with elder Saa’kokoto (Randy Bottle).
  • added to our shadow measurement chart by making a prediction of our noon shadow length.
    • Three students made a VERY quick outdoor shadow measurement for us.
    • Can you guess our noon winter solstice shadow measurement? We were surprised!
  • chose new books from our learning commons, to enjoy over the break.
  • wrapped some gifts to take home today.
You can wear PJs tomorrow if you would like!

December 20

 Grateful for:

  • healthy food (Thank you families, for packing healthy snacks and lunches - it makes a BIG difference to our energy levels!).
  • fun and interesting indoor learning.
  • secrets that are meant to be shared with family later.
  • snowmen that sit on our laps when quietly reading.

December 19

 Today we:

  • wrote for 20 minutes about something we are grateful for. We will finish and edit tomorrow.
  • looked closely at graphs. We completed a survey and graphed our findings using a many-to-one correspondence.
  • enjoyed carolling along with the DMC band.
  • participated in a live presentation by Leah Marie Dorion. She read her book, Metis Christmas Mittens. We were invited to sketch symbols and ideas as we watched and listened. A theme of care and connectedness was evident.
  • played indoors for recess - it is much too cold to be outside!
*Tomorrow is the last day to donate toward our mitten tree!

Jars, Mittens, PJs

It was an eventful week of learning.

Students worked hard to memorize lines, music and movement for the Winter Concert. We hope you enjoyed it!

We worked with our Grade One buddies on Friday to create caring cards for senior residents.

Copperfield's Mitten Tree is filling up. We are supporting FearIsNotLove, formally known as the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. They are in need of new adult and children's mittens and gloves. Tuesday, December 20th is the last day to collect donations.

Students are invited to wear their favourite set of PJ's to school on Thursday. We will be going outside for recess on this day (if temperature permits), so please ensure your child has snow pants to wear.

One more request - please send a clean jar on Monday (for a special project this week).

Although the gym was not available due to the winter concert, we found creative ways to enjoy Physical Education. Parachute games were fun. Ask me about "Shark", "Cat & Mouse" and "Cross the Colours". Thank you to Ms Sayer, for allowing us to use the empty music room.

Creating Caring Cards

Our sock snowmen are turning out to have such character. Thank you for your sock donations.
